Amazon MGM cancels Nicolas Cage's Spider-Noir after one season despite 11 Emmy nods

Amazon MGM Studios will not renew Spider-Noir for a second season, ending the live-action Nicolas Cage Spider-Man spinoff after one run on Prime Video despite 11 Emmy nominations and positive audience reception, Kotaku reports. The series launched on Prime Video in May and cast Cage as Ben Reilly, a superpowered private detective navigating a Depression-era underworld of villains including Black Cat, Tombstone and Silvermane, loosely adapted from the 2009 comic series. Cage produced alongside Christopher Miller, Phil Lord and Sony's Amy Pascal.

The cancellation follows a pattern of abrupt Marvel streaming shutdowns. Disney recently cancelled Wonder Man despite audience success and a seemingly confirmed second season, and Marvel Studios laid off over 1,000 employees four months ago, many in concept art. Sony says it intends to keep producing new Spider-Man spinoff series, and Spider-Man Noir will return in future Spider-Verse movies. The report does not give a reason for Amazon MGM's decision, and the studio has not publicly commented.
