Backrooms 2 reportedly in the works with Kane Parsons returning to direct

A sequel to A24's Backrooms is reportedly in development with Kane Parsons signed to direct, according to horror outlet Dread Central, which says an official announcement is imminent and that Backrooms 2 will be Parsons' next movie. Polygon reports the claim but notes A24 has not confirmed it.
Parsons created the Backrooms horror web series on YouTube before A24 turned it into an indie film he directed. The movie grossed nearly $400 million globally, roughly 40 times its production budget. In a May interview with Variety, Parsons hinted at more to come, saying Backrooms "has always been planned to be more of a series that goes outside the confines of this film" and that he is "definitely not done with Backrooms."
The report follows a June claim from industry insider Jeff Sneider that Parsons was working on a new project with Backrooms producer Osgood Perkins, details of which were unclear at the time. Dread Central's report suggests that project is the sequel. Polygon notes the timing is faster than expected and that the studio has yet to make anything official.
A Backrooms sequel would extend one of A24's biggest commercial hits, a film that grossed roughly 40 times its budget, with its original creator-director attached.
