South Korean developer NC revealed Like or Die, a competitive FPS, during Gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live showcase. The game draws heavily on Embark Studios' The Finals, sharing environmental destruction, abilities like zip lines and jump pads, and enemies that explode into pixelated cubes. The twist is the premise: players stream their matches on an in-game platform called Quaya, chasing likes from an audience that includes potential sponsors, who send gifts based on performance.

A behind-closed-doors video ended with a zoom-out on a black hole in space. Kim Hwan, head of IP at NC, told Polygon that in the game's alternate-universe Seoul, the viewers are not just humans. "It's all kinds of creatures and aliens," Hwan said, describing the black hole as the galaxy watching the stream. The setup echoes Dungeon Crawler Carl, where alien entities watch contestants survive and reward them accordingly, though NC has no plans to visualize the creatures in-game.

Like or Die has no release date. Its Steam page carries an AI disclaimer saying generative AI tools were used for auxiliary asset production, with the assets later modified by professional artists. NC is aiming for a closed test before the end of the year.

Why it matters

Like or Die marks NC's attempt to fuse the arena-shooter formula of The Finals with a live-streaming audience mechanic that turns viewer approval into in-game rewards.
