Nintendo unveils Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 console and Pro Controller

Nintendo has officially revealed a limited edition Switch 2 console and Pro Controller marking The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary, after images of the hardware leaked last month. Both launch Oct. 29, one week ahead of the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake, and feature a black, gold, and green color scheme with Triforce and Hylian Crest decals on the console, dock, and Joy-Con controllers. The console and controller are sold separately, and a special Pro Controller version with a display stand will be exclusive to Nintendo stores. A themed carrying case is also planned.

The hardware commemorates the franchise's 40th anniversary rather than the Ocarina of Time remake specifically, according to VGC. The release follows Nintendo's September decision to raise the Switch 2 price to $499.99, a hike driven by an AI-related component shortage affecting the industry. Polygon reports the special variants are intended to ease fans into the higher price. Nintendo has released Zelda-themed hardware for decades, including a gold Game Boy Advance SP in 2004, a Zelda-themed 3DS in 2011, and a Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED.
