OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra remakes existing games, badly, at $10 a pop

OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra launch has produced a wave of AI-generated game clones that recreate existing titles with worse physics, graphics, and gameplay, Kotaku reports. The model's most-touted feature is its ability to operate a computer inside 3D development tools like Blender, which testers have used to "create" games. Rather than original work, the demonstrations mostly reproduce games humans already built, functionally worse in nearly every way.

One tester, Zaddy, said it cost about $10 of compute each to knock off Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and other titles, though the results lack full game quality, online versus mode, and most maps. Another user built a Sonic the Hedgehog clone in Godot, taking 53 minutes on the Max tier and 25 minutes on Medium. Other attempts include a realistic-looking Contra recreation with floaty jumps and heroes impervious to enemy fire, and a Simpsons: Hit and Run clone whose car moves incorrectly and has no characters.

Nintendo IP is a natural target, with rumors of a new Smash Bros. ahead of a Nintendo Direct later this week. The clones use characters neither the AI nor the prompter owns.
