Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 confirmed for Switch 2, with a delayed release date

Atlus and Nintendo confirmed during today's Nintendo Direct that Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 will both come to Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement settles months of speculation about whether the remake of the 2008 RPG would reach Nintendo's current console, and it came with a catch: Persona 4 Revival hits Switch 2 on May 20, 2027, three months after its February 18 release on all other platforms. That delay is comparatively mild for the series, since Persona 3 Reload arrived on Switch 2 more than a year and a half after its initial launch.

Persona 4 Revival is Atlus's remake of the original 2008 game, which follows a group of students in the Japanese countryside investigating a string of murders and rumors of a mysterious Midnight Channel on television. The remake brings a graphical overhaul and gameplay improvements, though Atlus has said it is sticking as close as possible to the game's story and character arcs. Some nuance is being added where it makes sense, including to the character Yosuke, whose story has drawn criticism for how it handles issues of gender and sexuality.

Series producer Kazuhisa Wada told Rock Paper Shotgun at Gamescom that the team wanted Revival to serve as an entry point for newcomers while still honoring what made the original great. "We wanted this to be an excellent entry point for those who want their first taste of the game," he said, "but in order to do that, we need to get to the essence of what made Persona 4 great, and for that we need to grab the hearts of existing fans and make this game something they would remember." Wada has described the remake as something he feels a "duty" to make.

Hands-on impressions from Rock Paper Shotgun's Gamescom preview describe combat and the social simulation that defined the series, with the writer playing through early story sections as transfer student Yu Narukami alongside classmate Yosuke, including a confrontation with Yosuke's Shadow form in the metaphysical realm. The preview also covered a section set in a realm created by the subconscious of Yu's friend Yukiko, where the party takes on the Shadow of classmate Chie.

Persona 6 was only officially revealed in July with a teaser trailer showing headstones in a graveyard with a headless statue at the center, and the Nintendo Direct added no hard details. The teaser's grittier, more mature tone could signal a return to form for the series, though Persona 5's own reveal trailer had almost nothing to do with the final game. Atlus has shared no protagonist, setting, or release window for Persona 6, and the company will likely shift focus to it after Persona 4 Revival ships next year.

The Persona announcements were part of a broader Nintendo Direct that also revealed Kirby and the World Beyond, a new 3D Kirby adventure coming to Switch 2 in Spring 2027 as part of the character's 35th anniversary. The trailer shows Kirby freely exploring a field with copy abilities, climbing trees, and using a large sword power-up to cut a hole in the sky and reveal a new land beyond it. It is the second full 3D Kirby platformer after 2022's Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which received a Switch 2 upgrade in August 2025. Monster Hunter Wilds was also confirmed for Switch 2 this year, with its expansion to follow.

What remains unknown is whether Persona 6 will launch simultaneously across platforms or follow the staggered pattern set by Persona 4 Revival, and whether the Switch 2 versions of either game will include platform-specific features. Atlus has not announced a release window for Persona 6 on any platform.
