Iceflake Studios reveals Lego Skylines, a brick-built city builder for 2027
Paradox Interactive and Iceflake Studios revealed Lego Skylines during Gamescom Opening Night Live, a brick-built city builder and the next entry in the Skylines series. Iceflake took over the franchise from original developer Colossal Order after Cities: Skylines 2's troubled 2023 launch, which was plagued by performance issues and followed by years of fixes. Paradox remains publisher.
The game launches in 2027 on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch 2. Players start as a Master Builder arriving by boat on an island, fulfilling requests from Lego residents, plopping homes, roads built from classic grey street plates, farms, and shops. Growing the city unlocks new buildings and services that raise its rating and citizen happiness.
Game director Lasse Liljedahl said the team wants city problems visible in the world rather than buried in stats screens. High crime would show robberies and police chases; fires would draw trucks or water-dropping helicopters. Producer Joanna Ronkanen said the Lego brand's family-friendly status forced the team to find a visual language for issues like homelessness, drawing tone from recent Lego movies. "This is mainly a game for adults because of the complexity, but it should be something that your kids can watch at the same time," Liljedahl said.
Lego Skylines marks the first new Skylines game under Iceflake Studios' stewardship and tests whether the franchise can rebuild trust after Cities: Skylines 2's troubled launch.
