Report: Killzone remaster in early development at Guerrilla with People Can Fly
A new report claims Killzone is returning as a remaster or remake in early development at Guerrilla Games with an external studio. Gaming site MP1st, cited by Polygon and VGC, says the partner is likely People Can Fly, the studio behind Bulletstorm and Outriders and a co-developer on multiple Gears of War titles, though MP1st could not get definitive confirmation of the studio's identity.
The project was reportedly meant to be Guerrilla's next focus after the multiplayer game Horizon Hunters Gathering, but plans shifted after that title was delayed and pivoted away from live service following negative feedback. Most of Guerrilla's staff are said to be on the Horizon multiplayer game, with part of the studio expected to move to Killzone after it ships.
Which game is being remastered is unconfirmed; MP1st believes it is the original 2004 Killzone, which scored 70 on Metacritic versus 91 for its 2012 sequel. Killzone has had no proper release since 2013's Killzone: Shadow Fall. No release date or official announcement exists, and plans could change given how early development is.
A Killzone revival would mark the dormant PlayStation FPS franchise's first proper release in over a decade and signal Guerrilla's return to shooter development after years focused on Horizon.
